Finnish Gateway to Environmental History Documents Finnish Environmental History Resources Finnish Environmental History Resources (FEH) Environmental History Courses in Finland 2006/2007. See more at Teaching Environmental history is a rapidly expanding field in Finland. A clear evidence for its importance was the large number of Finnish papers presented at the TTE2005 conference in Turku. Therefore IEHG has decided to create an inventory of Finnish environmental historians to encourage discursion and scientific cooperation. All websites are in English, if not it is marked in brackets. We welcome your contribution to our inventory by contacting us. A Agricola's Ympäristö Historia site (in Finnish) Agricola is an extended website dedicated to history, unfortunately only in Finnish. The environmental history section of the site contains a number of links to websites and project descriptions. C The CADWES Team at the Tampere University for Technology has been carrying out a number of projects on the development of water and sewerage services in various countries. Their mission is to see technological solutions in a historical perspective to understand the past, present and future development of water services in their wider contexts. E Environmental Engineering at the Tampere Polytechnic Environmental Engineering is a 4 year program at the Tampere Polytechnic which is one of Tampere's four university level institutions. This institute hosted the 2006 conference of the Global Dry Toilet Club of Finland. The major aim of the club is to promote Finnish dry toilet technology for rural areas in developing countries. Environmental History Website at the University of Helsinki The site is maintained by Simo Laakkonen and Sari Laurila and provides an overview on the environmental history of Helsinki, Finland and the Baltic Sea. In addition the sire offers various downloadable articles and documents. Etelä-Karjala Instituutti, Technology and rethinking borders of Europe Conference Tensions of Europe Conference hosted by the Lappeenranta University of Technology is a multidisciplinary event focusing on the transboundary problems of Europe, therefore environmental history and water history is widely represented in the program. S Is a multidisciplinary project covering the 19th-20th century history of the Baltic Sea and her 13 cities in a cooperation of 40 students and researchers around the region. A comprehensive and richly illustrated environmental history of Helsinki is also available here. Furthermore the website offers various downloadable documents, articles. T Tampere University of Technology, Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology One of the institute’s main concern is water technology in a historical context. The site provides useful information on the teaching, research and publication activities of the institute. The Finnish Society for the History of Technology (partly in English) The society maintains a number of activities and publishes Tekniikan Waiheita, The Finnish Quarterly for the History of Technology. The website contains TW abstracts, downloadable publications and articles in English. The History of Finnish Environmental History A comprehensive introduction by Timo Myllyntaus to the history of Finnish Environmental History TTE2005 at the University of Turku The Thinking Through the Environment Conference has been one of the most important events related to environmental history in Finland. A number of Finnish papers were also presented at the conference and all abstracts are still downloadable from the conference’s website. TORUS Finnish network for the History of Science and Technology This unique network is connecting many universities and offering 8 web-courses for students in the academic year 2006/2006.
