Finnish Gateway to Environmental History Members      For Students     Teaching About IEHG                                        “Water is the driving force of all nature.”   Leonardo Da Vinci Finland is often called as the land of a thousand lakes; in fact there are some 180,000. Therefore, we are very proud of our natural heritage and we do live close to water and nature. The home town of IEHG is Tampere, which has a long history of pulp, paper and textile industries. Despite of her smoky past and dozens of downtown chimneys, today, our city is a dynamic centre of education, research and business, aiming to a sustainable future. The IEH Group was set up on a chilly winter afternoon in early 2001. At the moment, Agata Depka, Harri Mäki, Peter Kamau, Petri S. Juuti and Viktor Pal are the members of IEHG. Their aim to research and promote different subdisciplines of environmental history. This website is created to present their activities, encourage discussion and strengthen links between professionals and non-professionals in Finland and abroad. Our pages offer information About our group members and for undergraduate students. The News section displays information about Finnish and foreign calls, events, projects and conferences of various fields. In addition we proudly present the first Finnish mailing list of environmental history. New mailing list subscribers are always welcome to Contact us. Various articles, essays and The List of Finnish Environmental Historians (FEH) will be published under Documents.
